April 17 / KL Live / Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

After spending a couple of days in Kuala Lumpur doing promo, Greyson finally took to the stage for his first full length concert in Asia.  Playing to a packed house, Greyson thrilled the audience by playing most of the songs off of his debut album, Hold On ‘Til The Night and some well chosen covers. Greyson opened the show with powerful combination of “Unfriend You” followed by “Heart Like Stone.” Greyson was back to performing “Unfriend You” as the full band version rather then the acoustic/full band hybrid arrangement that he had been using in some of his more recent performances.

During his first real concert of 2012, Greyson debuted two new covers. The first is a cover of Foster the People’s hit “Pumped Up Kicks.” Greyson has hinted about this cover during his Skype interview for Greyson Day last week. However, the second cover of the night was a complete surprise. Greyson joined the long list of artists to try their hand at covering Adele’s “Rolling In the Deep.” However, like he always does, Greyson added his own personal touch to the song by performing it in a sped-up acoustic arrangement accompanied by Hayden Maringer on guitar and heavily helped out by the audience who knew all the words.

Other highlights included the addition of two of Greyson’s original songs to his concert setlist. “Purple Sky” was the Amazon exclusive song off of Hold On ‘Til The Night released by Greyson as a tribute to those who had lost their lives due to bullying. The only time that Greyson had played this live was his moving performance at the Human Rights Campaign Dinner back in October 2011. Well, his Malaysian fans were treated to the world premiere of the full band version of “Purple Sky.”

The other original song that was played with the band was “Take A Look At Me Now” which opened the encore. Greyson had previously played an acoustic version of this fan favorite during his first promo trip to Asia, but this was the first time that he had brought out the full band version.

Finally, one of the biggest surprises of the night was a completely reworked version of the title song “Hold On ‘Til The Night”. Much like he had reworked “Unfriend You,” this new arrangement of “Hold On ‘Til The Night” has Greyson starting out singing the song acoustically and accompanying himself on the piano before the band kicks in. What do you think of the new arrangement? Be sure to tell us in the comments.
