Fire - Waiting Outside the Lines - EP

No it don’t, come easy
No it don’t, come fast
Lock me up inside your car and
Take me to the river side

And fire, burning me up desire
Taking me so much higher
And leaving me home

There you were, in your black dress
Moving slow to the sadness
I could watch you dance for hours
I could take you by my side

And fire, burning me up desire
Taking me so much higher
And leaving me whole
And leaving me home

Woh oh oh yeah
It’s burning me up
Woh oh ooh

No it don’t, come easy
No it don’t, come fast
Lock me up inside your car and
Take me to the river side

Fire, turning me on desire
Taking me so much higher
And leaving me home
And leaving me, whole

History

“Fire” was released on the California band Augustana’s album Can’t Love, Can’t Hurt in 2008. A video of Greyson covering “Fire” in his Los Angeles apartment was uploaded to his personal YouTube account on September 24, 2010.

Watch Greyson’s Original Cover of “Fire”:

Greyson has always listed Augustana as one of his favorite bands and said on his greyson97 YouTube channel that the band “is one of the most underrated bands I think ever to step the planet. They have so much talent it is not funny. They have such a good concept with folk and rock. It is very sad that they are so unknown.”

A studio version of “Fire” was first released as the third and final song on the physical “Waiting Outside the Lines” single on October 26, 2010.

During their 2011 tour, Dan Layus, the lead singer and songwriter of Augustana, commented on Greyson’s cover of his song.  Layus said that Greyson was “a little asshole” because Greyson’s version of “Fire” “put any of [their] versions of this song to shame.”

First Live Performance

With the exception of the original video which was filmed in the Chance family’s Los Angeles apartment, Greyson’s first public performance of “Fire” occurred at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario as a part of WeDay 2010 on September 30, 2010. WeDay is an annual event organized by the Canadian charity Free The Children that, according to founder Craig Kielburger, is designed to “motivate young people to help fight injustice by convincing them that fighting injustice can be hip.”
